Welcome to the start of a new school year! Here is a TEDx talk by a great math educator from Stanford University. We have been exploring the week of inspirational math activities created by an amazing team - we are calling it Marvellous Math Madness. Her message is clear: everyone can be a math person.
Day one was spent learning about the plasticity of the brain. Students then explored equations in their table groups using four 4's (eg. 4 + 4 + 4 - 4).
Day two was another video on crossing the brain to make connections stronger. Students first explored number visuals and we spent a lot of time looking at the patterns. This led to a great conversation about PRIME numbers.
My hope is that students will not only be excited about math but also to see themselves as mathematicians.
