Play Days

We had a terrific day of play on Friday in our school. There were groups of grade five boys building forts out of blankets and desks; when a grade 2 student asked to join in, they welcomed him and introduced themselves. It warmed my heart to see the inclusiveness and the kindness exhibited by these older boys. These are just some of the opportunities that arise on play days. Why are they so important? I think this story by the CBC this summer gives us a few reasons: The lost art of play

Thank you to everyone for your participation in our goal-setting conferences. I will be sending home a copy on Monday of the reflections in the core subject areas.

We are beginning to look at the respiratory system and on Monday I plan to make a model of the lungs with students. We are in need of a few more 2L clear plastic bottles. If you are able to send one on Monday, we would appreciate it. I hope to have enough for at least 4 students per model (which means I need at least 6 more bottles). If not, we'll make do with what we have!

Students brought home a consent form for our upcoming Vancouver Symphony Orchestra field trip which is generously paid for by PAC. Please return those next week. In addition, we are collecting our school supplies fees. If you could send those in early next week, it means one less piece of paperwork (i.e. accounting) for me. Thanks for your help with this.
