Community Appreciation

It was so nice to be able to say a big thank you for all the support provided by our parents and larger community. If you were unable to make it, let me say thanks again for helping in a myriad of ways. I couldn't do it without you!

We had a very exciting walkathon last Friday! Our class won a pizza party for walking the most number of laps - our average as a class was 11 laps per person. Way to go Division 8. Please remember to collect that pledge money and return it to school by Monday, May 16.

We have been continuing on with Steps to Respect in our classroom. Students now have a good understanding of recognizing bullying and have spent a few weeks practicing assertiveness. Today we began to look at the second step after recognizing bullying, which is refusing. Next we will look at the final step which is reporting. The grade 4 students have been asked to participate in another School Climate Survey. This is a valuable tool in which students answers questions related to our school. Information is compiled and trends are then reported back to our staff. We found it to be very useful in supporting our school focus on Social Responsibility. Please return the consent forms on Monday, May 16.

In math, the grade 3 students are wrapping up a unit on fractions. They have been learning to identify and compare fractions of an object (example: half an apple) or a group (example: half of 12 apples). The grade 4 students are beginning our unit on division. They have been learning about the two different meanings of division: the number of sets or the number of objects in a set. Next, we will be learning long division.

Our recorder practice is moving steadily forward. I will try and have students prepared to bring home their recorders by the end of next week for additional practice. You may wish to purchase ear plugs in advance!! All joking aside, they actually are working really hard, are motivated, and sounding almost like a band so circle the date for the Spring Concert on your calendars!
