The Survey Says

Welcome back to school!

Yesterday we explored Office 365 using our Cloud books. Using technology is always interesting as we never know whether things will work or not - today was an okay day! Students worked in partners to complete a few different tasks which also familiarized them with our class notebook. One task was to vote on our next class read aloud. And the winner is.... The Unwanteds. Another task asked students to rate their level of excitement about school. The average rating was 2.87 out of 5 stars. I'll take that for the first day back! Today we began our sexual abuse prevention program called Kids in the Know.

The new mid-year assessment (report card) will be coming home on February 2. I have been working with students to make the shift from letter grades to feedback. There is also new language to describe where students' competencies are in relation to their grade level. It is possible that students may be both developing and applying knowledge, skills, strategies and processes. This does not mean that they are never extending their knowledge, skills, strategies and processes; we are looking at where they consistently land with most tasks. If I have concerns about your child not being able to meet grade level expectations, I will already have contacted you (or met with you for an IEP). There should be no surprises.

Please check out the pictures of our science posters in the previous post (from December). Students brought home a reflection sheet in which they also self-evaluated their projects. I will be giving them my feedback by the end of the week. Please add any of your own comments as well. I would like to have these back by Wednesday, January 10. Thanks for the wonderful feedback many have already given!
