The Halfway Point

Here is a very fascinating video that we watched in class today. Hopefully it will inspire us as we pursue a science inquiry unit. Our inquiry question: How do the movements of Earth and the Moon affect living things?  Looking at Earth in the bigger picture definitely is inspiring!

We are thoroughly enjoying our Global Read Aloud novel, Pax. Several students contributed to a padlet, created by another teacher, with students responding from as places as far away as California and as close as Burnaby. They were asked to describe the main character using just one word - determined, brave, courageous. Ask your child to tell you about the story so far.

In Physical Education, we are learning the skills of volleyball. I want to say a big thank you to Kirsten for helping us out for the last few weeks. We will have a two week break for our Square Dancing unit, and then resume for a few more weeks so we can put into practice our newfound (or developing) skills.

We have a Math quiz on Monday. Students are bringing home their JUMP math books to study. It is on increasing & decreasing patterns. This will include completing T-tables and using pattern rules. I went over which pages to study with the students in class. You can make up practice problems similar to the ones in the workbook or finish any questions they have not completed as another way to study.

If you are visiting the school, please take the time to check out the pastel pumpkin art outside our classroom. We completed them in one afternoon, and I think the students did a terrific job of blending and shading. Definitely framable art!

In French, we have been learning Halloween vocabulary. Students can practice at home using Quizlet (see the "Links for Students" page). We have also begun a new morning meeting routine called "telephone". Students created a fictitious phone number for me to call (speaking the numbers out loud in French). When they answer, they must hold a simple conversation with me, completely in French. This is such a fun way to listen and understand a new language!
