Poetry

One of my favourite types of writing is poetry. We begin by talking about what poems are and where we find poetry. Students brainstormed a list of where poetry could be found. Then they chose one idea and wrote a poem. We also looked at a poem by Shel Silverstein called Spaghetti! Spaghetti! and students were invited to try their hand at writing a poem about their favourite food (look for the repetition).

Poetry hides in trees 
and waits silently
its delicious words
hang from the branches
waiting to be picked and planted
into poems...

Poetry is
dripping down from imagination
to a fresh
piece of paper
waiting to be
shown to the world.

Poetry silently
waits in
my desk through
the dark
treacherous night.
Till Monday.
Then it 
creeps out of 
my desk into
my head and
becomes a thought.

eagerly waiting to be
UNLEASHED
like an untamed beast
ready to pounce
and become a
POEM

Strawberry peach
I berry love
my cheeky peach.
thick and soft
but surprisingly sweet. I enjoy 
in my tree house
