On Thursday afternoon, we are going to build a model of the respiratory system. Students should bring an empty 2L plastic bottle (if possible) to create their own model. See the picture below.
We started our next read aloud: Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George. I am also excited about my recent trip to Kidsbooks to pick out several other books for our read alouds later in the year. This week we will be starting GENRE bingo during Independent Reading. Students will be filling in a bingo sheet when they read from different genres. When they complete a row, they will receive a bookmark.
On Wednesday, we will be having our first math quiz. Students will be taking a practice quiz on Monday and bringing home their JUMP workbooks to study. A great way to study is to look over the questions in the workbook or create new problems using the workbook as an example. Please note that I don't assign every problem in the workbook - students are encouraged to complete these questions as BONUS questions. Not everyone will have completed these. In addition, you may notice that at times I will only have marked the last question for a section. This is because these questions are the most difficult and if students are answering these correctly, then they will understand how to solve easier questions. This does not mean that they won't make occasional calculation errors. I circulate the classroom while students complete practice problems and again, while students complete the workbook, to ensure that everyone understands the math concept.
