Thursday night is Meet the Staff night. Although I have had a chance to meet many of you already, this will be a great opportunity for me to provide additional information on the Grade 4 year. I realize that not all of you will be able to attend. If you cannot make it, let me know and I can send you the information that I will be covering.
Today was a professional day at Wolfe. We focused on our school goal which is to improve math fluency and attitudes towards math. I am so thankful to have time to spend in collaborative conversations with colleagues around ways to engage students successfully and to improve achievement. Look for more information throughout the year regarding this goal.
On that note, we had a lot of fun playing a math game last Friday called Go Fish to 10. We will be practicing it again in case students have forgotten how to play. This week I will be focusing on continued assessments to get to know each student individually (strengths and learning needs) which will help me to plan more effective instruction for all students.
We have also mostly completed our first art project. There are just a few students left to finish up. Please look for these in the halls. It was a combination art and poetry lesson. For the art portion, we reviewed primary and secondary colours. A lot of fun was had (and a bit of a mess too) as we mixed paint colours to achieve targeted colours. Once the paint dried, students brainstormed adjectives that described themselves as individuals. These are in the form of a simple "I am...." poem.
If students brought home their "What writers write" assignment for homework, remind them to return it to school on Tuesday. I always encourage students to let me know first thing in the morning if they need extra time to complete the assignment or they have forgotten to return it.
I look forward to a great second week together!
